New Mill MVC Annual Christmas Concert - Saturday December 16th 2017
With special guests Quintessential Brass.
Our last concert of the year and one of the best in the Choir’s annual calendar. Its always an enjoyable event – relaxed, good fun and a great way to start the Christmas festivities.
Christ Church was, as usual, full. Our guests, Quintessential Brass, were on fine form. There is little that typifies Christmas more than the sound of a brass ensemble accompanying a church congregation singing carols. Voices respond naturally with gusto and enthusiasm.
There was, of course, some sadness as we recalled the loss of Pete Kennedy a few weeks ago. We sang his much loved ‘Hail Smiling Morn’ and there was a particularly poignant contribution from Steve Davies who sang Season of Peace by Si Kahn an American singer/songwriter.
The Grand Christmas Draw gets Grander each year and featured Santa Claus (a very spooky and unrecognizable Rob Tracey) and his Christmas Elves. They ran themselves ragged delivering prizes to lucky winners as Santa and a resplendent Master of Ceremonies (Ibbo) rapidly pulled the lucky numbers from the Shiny Christmas Bucket.
The evening continued at New Mill Club with supper, a few beers and a rather fine performance of South Australia. The ‘sailors’ are beginning to get into their parts and there is evidently some Method Acting creeping in. Worrying.
