Rotary Christmas Concert - Saturday 9th December 2017

Penistone Paramount -

Repeat concerts present a special challenge. Last night, our fifth successive Christmas Concert as guests of Denby Dale Rotary, broke new ground and proved a big success. The concert followed a familiar pattern- Skelmanthorpe Band were first up, while we huddled in the changing rooms. Delightful Soprano Ann followed, and then it was our first set. Alan introduced the World Premier of God Rest Ye Merry Audience- which gave tenors and basses license to mildly insult each other and had the audience giggling.

After the interval we were blessed by a guest appearance from the Ghost of Graceland, David Thorpe, in full white jump suit and suspiciously jet black hair. He was accompanied by the ageing Jordanheirs. Garlands were given to the audience to greet the great man, and set the electric atmosphere. Elvis only faltered once and quipped ‘ I am eighty five you know’. Two hundred voices chorused Glory ,Glory,Hallelujah and loved every second.

The finale was, as ever, Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory, sung con gusto

It was another great turn out by the choir, despite the snow, and expertly managed by Alan and Emma
