Three Choirs – and a Soloist – on top form! The audience in Wakefield Cathedral on Saturday 29th April had a treat as Wakefield Amateur Operatic Society Chorus, Denby Dale Ladies Choir and New Mill delivered a fantastic concert to a packed cathedral.

Wakefield Cathedral is a magnificent place to sing, even more so after the renovation work of recent years. A dark and gloomy interior has been transformed into a light and spacious arena that is well suited to concerts like this. All three Choirs rose to the occasion and made good use of the acoustics in items like The Look (DDL), I Believe/Ave Maria (WAOS) and The Lost Chord (NMMVC and Tom Moore on the Organ). Soloist Sarah Ogden delivered a masterful performance that had the audience spellbound, Some Enchanted Evening summed up the night perfectly!

A big Thank You to Jeff Goldthorpe who masterminded the evening. The logistics of moving three Choirs on and off the staging were flawless!

“One of my ‘Top Three’ concerts of all time.”

– Alan Brierley, MD (NMMVC)

“Fantastic! Am I part of this?”

– Rod Gooch, NMMVC, in the audience that night.
