The Choir’s guest at Huddersfield Town Hall in October 2022 was Sir Willard White. Sir Willard’s illustrious career spans four decades and includes appearances at the most prestigious Opera Houses in the World. Well known for his commanding stage prescence, Sir Willard enchanted the audience with a performance that included songs from Mozart, Vaughan Williams, Arron Copland, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Cole Porter. A selection carefully chosen to suit all musical tastes. For an encore he delivered a stunning and characteristic performance of ‘My Way’, a song, he said, he initially did not enjoy. However, he was persuaded by Carl Davis that the songs words applied to every man’s journey through life and eventually it became the title of his album of songs, featuring ‘My Way’, released in 2005.

For many years our concerts have been compered by Jeff Goldthorpe, a professional in every sense. Jeff never ceases to delight our audience, and the Choir, by discovering little known anecdotes about songs, arrangers and composers which adds colour to our performance.

The concert did not end in Huddersfield Town Hall. The Choir returned to New Mill Club for our traditional post-concert ‘Afterglow’ where we were joined by Sir Willard. During the course of an exceptional evening, Sir Willard agreed to become our President, a great honour for the Choir.
